US Senators Demand Investigation Against Tesla
Democratic Senators Ed Markey and Richard Blumenthal have asked the US Chamber of Commerce to investigate Tesla over misleading ads for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving.
According to a letter to the Chamber of Commerce, senators believe that repeated exaggeration of the capabilities of their vehicles by Tesla and their CEO Elon Musk despite frequent and clear warnings demonstrates a deep disregard for the safety of those on the road.
According to senators, the company’s advertising statements put drivers and passengers at risk of a serious injury or death.
Markey and Blumenthal also recalled an investigation launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Agency on August 16, 2021, which is studying a series of accidents involving Tesla. In total, about 17 people were injured as a result of these accidents and one was killed. Moreover, at the time of the accident in all cases the autopilot or cruise control was turned on in the electric cars.
The Chamber of Commerce did not comment on the senators’ letter.
