Ukrainian Banks and Government Sites Experienced the Largest DDoS Attack in 30 Years

The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Mikhail Fedorov, called the February 15 DDoS attack on several Ukrainian banks and government websites the largest in the history of the country.

As the press service of the Center for Information Security of Ukraine reported earlier, the websites of PrivatBank and Oschadbank were attacked, there were also interruptions in the work of the state application Diya, the websites of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Serhiy Demedyuk, no financial losses were recorded as a result of the incident. There is also no evidence of any data leaks.

The CERT-UA response team quickly captured reports of attacks and took down some government sites to counter the spread of damage from hackers.

The head of the SSU cybersecurity department, Ilya Vityuk, added that such an attack cannot be carried out by one hacker or a separate group. According to experts of the special services, the attack was carried out through foreign special services or a specially created infrastructure.
