The Amount of Crypto Scams Turned Out to Be Lower Than Expected
The police statistics of City of London shows that crypto scams are not as frequent as they were supposed to be at the moment. They estimated the cyber crimes within the last years and found they indeed increased as the COVID-19 pandemics started but now their number isn’t that high.
Most of the crypto scams were related to high investment returns. They were at the maximum between 2019 and 2020, and the rise of Bitcoin in December 2020 also gave them a boost. But even then they made only one fifth of all cyber-related crimes.
The true leaders in the cyber crime scene are frauds with bank accounts, check and plastic cards. However, the UK Crown Prosecutor expects the amount of crypto scams to increase in the coming years together with the wider adoption of cryptocurrencies.
