Sky Mavis Will Compensate for the Loss of Users From the Attack on Ronin
Sky Mavis, the company behind the creation of the blockchain game Axie Infinity, promised to compensate the losses of users who suffered from a hacker attack on the Ronin sidechain. The team reported that the hackers used social engineering to gain unauthorized access to the assets.
Company representatives added that the attack was carried out using social engineering, not technical flaws. The project team is now working with Chainalysis to track the stolen funds, while Crowdstrike is conducting a technical audit of Ronin to ensure there are no exploits.
Axie Infinity and Sky Mavis COO Alexander Larsen said the team will soon be adding “several” new validators to further decentralize the sidechain.
“We are committed to returning or refunding all withdrawn assets and are continuing discussions with stakeholders to determine the best course of action,” he added.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Larsen noted that the funds stolen from Ronin included “deposits from players and speculators, as well as Axie Infinity’s treasury proceeds.” The COO of the project emphasized that Sky Mavis ruled out an insider attack.
