SEC Checks Crypto Exchanges for Insider Trading — Media

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched an investigation into possible insider trading on cryptocurrency exchanges, FOX Business reports.

The source of the publication said that the SEC requested information from one of the major platforms on measures to combat such practices, and other exchanges could receive the same notifications.

Journalists turned to the SEC with a request to comment on the information, but the regulator refused. Cryptocurrency exchanges Binance and Coinbase also refused to comment on the situation. FTX and Crypto.com press representatives also did not respond to multiple requests for comment on the SEC investigation.

It is not yet known which department is investigating — the enforcement department of the Securities and Exchange Commission or the Office of Inspections and Compliance Reviews. The last one is often conducting preliminary reviews of areas of interest to regulators. But as the law enforcement department is investigating, the SEC is clearly concerned about potentially serious regulatory violations.
