John McAfee Was Found Dead In Spanish Prison

McAfee antivirus creator John McAfee was found dead in his jail cell in Spain on June 24.

The Spanish Ministry of Justice confirmed this, indicating that the preliminary cause of death was suicide.

McAfee has been in a Spanish prison since late last year on tax evasion charges.

According to Reuters, his extradition to the United States was approved by a Spanish court on the morning of June 24.

A number of charges have been levelled against McAfee, including the alleged operation of two crypto scammers who defrauded investors for $13 million.

If extradited to the United States, McAfee had to stand trial on tax evasion charges between 2014 and 2018. The charges were brought up for tax evasion on profits from cryptocurrency, paid promotions in cryptocurrency, consulting work, and the sale of rights to a documentary about his life.

According to a June 2020 indictment from the Tennessee Department of Justice and Attorney’s Office of Tax, McAfee would face a minimum of five years for each count of tax evasion and a minimum of one year for each count of wilful refusal to file a tax return.

Given his age, the entrepreneur, if found guilty, would have to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

John McAfee founded McAfee Associates antivirus software company in 1987. In 1994, he left his post.

McAfee was also at the centre of the investigation into the death of his neighbour in Belize. Then he was never officially charged.

McAfee also tried to run for a President in 2016 and 2020.
