Hetzner Banned Using Their Servers For Mining Chia
Hetzner, a Germany-based hosting provider, banned mining cryptocurrencies with the use of their servers including the cloud and storage ones, and also the hosting services. Their users started mining Chia, and the company was concerned about the damage to their hardware.
The company explained that during mining hard discs are extremely overloaded due to the multiple cycles of reading and recording, and, therefore, get damaged easily. Chia network uses the consensus algorithms Proof-of-Space and Proof-of-Time.
The lifetime of 15 GB SSDs exposed to the mining of Chia is about two months instead of the initial five years as they were supposed to. Galax, a Chinese SSD manufacturer, announced that their products can’t be covered by a company’s warranty service if they were used to mine Chia.
